The term dates for the 2024 school year are:

• Term 1 - 29 January to 28 March 2024
• Term 2 - 15 April to 28 June 2024
• Term 3 - 15 July to 20 September 2024
• Term 4 - 7 October to 20 December 2024 

The term dates for the 2025 school year are:

• Term 1 - 28 January to 4 April 2025
• Term 2 - 22 April to 4 July 2025
• Term 3 - 21 July to 19 September 2025
• Term 4 - 5 October to 19 December 2025

The first day of a new school year is always a student-free day. Schools allocate three remaining student-free days and one whole-school professional practice day across the year, and these dates require school council approval.

2025 student-free days that have been approved by the BESDS council are:

• Curriculum Day - Tuesday 28 January 2025 (first day of Term 1 to prepare for the new school year)
• Curriculum Day - Wednesday 29 January 2025 (second day of Term 1 to prepare for moving to the new learning centre)
• Curriculum Day - Friday 21 February 2025 (moving to and unpacking in the new learning centre) 
• Whole-school Professional Practice Day - Friday 30 May 2025 (Term 2)
• Curriculum Day - Monday 3 November 2025 (Term 4, the day before Melbourn Cup Day)
